Scope and Contents

Fifty-one photoengravings of decorated initials and ornaments used in printing The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments: translated out of the original tongues and with the former translations diligently compared and revised. This edition, published by World Publishing Company in 1949 is known as "the World Bible," and was printed by A. Colish from designs by Bruce Rogers in an edition of 975 copies.

Biographical / Historical

Bruce Rogers (1870-1957) was an American typographer and book designer. Rogers is known for his classical book design and use of serif typeface. His work includes Montaigne (1901) and Centaur (1915) typefaces, the Oxford Lectern Bible (1935), The Odyssey of Homer (1932), and The Divine Comedy (1955).
