Scope and Contents

In July, 2009, StoryCorps visited Rochester, New York. This collection contains three interviews conducted at StoryCorps by Greg Lavidas, media relations director at NTID. Lavidas interviewed Robert F. Panara (NTID Professor Emeritus), T. Alan Hurwitz (NTID president), and Paul and Sally Taylor (Paul was a professor at NTID and Sally editor of Deaf Rochester newspaper). Each interview has a transcript as well.

Biographical / Historical

StoryCorps, a non-profit organization that records oral histories of everyday Americans, started in 2003. Since that time, more than 30,000 interviews have been recorded. Participants are given a cd of the interview and a copy is housed at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress. StoryCorps travels across the United States recording these histories, and in July of 2009, visited Rochester, New York.
