 Collection — Binder: 1-8
Identifier: RITDSA-0061

Scope and Contents

RIT/NTID Marketing Communications slide collection originally contained 8 binders of images taken during the first 20 years of NTID's existence on RIT's campus. The majority of the images were taken in the 1970s, coinciding with the construction of the Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) building and dormitories. Some of the images are stamped RIT Communications, a precursor to University Publications and University News.

The images document the campus, buildings and their construction, classrooms and equipment, dedication ceremonies, and students, faculty and staff of NTID from the late 1960's through the 1980's. The collection of slides has been digitized by the RIT Archives and reside in the Cumulus database.

NTID Marketing Communications

The slides came from the NTID Marketing Communications department (Public Information Office during the time period encompassed by the collection). A communications department was established at NTID in 1968, with the founding of NTID on RIT's campus. The department published Focus magazine and promotional materials related to NTID's programs and services.

The NTID Marketing Communications is a marketing services team in the marketing department at NTID. They provide solutions to marketing and communication needs by making a plan of action that helps, while supporting NTID/RIT's brand and major area of focus. The marketing team is also involved with most major events and programs hosted by NTID/RIT and have media specialists run the ads and websites that influence the community on campus.

Mark Benjamin is the official NTID photographer and captures most of the images that tell the story of RIT/NTID. He produces pictures for websites, marketing and other publications, social media and exhibits.
