Biographical / Historical

Harold Stewart Bishop (1884-?) was known as a painter, etcher, lithographer, and teacher.

The Reynolds Arcade building was built by Abelard Reynolds in 1828 at 16 E Main St, Rochester, NY. Reynolds (1758-1878) was Rochester's first postmaster. The building became the first home of the Athenaeum. The city of Rochester was only twelve years old when a group of men assembled in the newly built Reynolds Arcade to found the Athenaeum. One of them, Nathaniel Rochester after whom the city is named, became the first president of the Athenaeum, and so the first leader of the institution now known as RIT.

According to rocwiki.org, the original Reynolds Arcade building was demolished and replaced in 1932 with the current ten-story Art Deco building that stands today. This building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
