Historical Information on Keith Howard and his Legacy Exhibition

Flux: Keith Howard and his Legacy is an exhibition that celebrates the life of this innovator through his own work and the work of students, colleagues and friends that formed a community around him in the School of Art at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the last fifteen years of his life.

There will be approximately 28-30 artists participating. The portfolio will have a print from each participant and a page or two dealing with title, intent and thanks. Each print will be created on a 14 x 18” sheet of paper and there will be 5 portfolios created.

Biographical Information on Keith Howard

Keith J. Howard Jr. (1950-2015) was an innovator in the printmaking industry and brought his talents to the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1999. He brought new life to the printmaking program and was regarded as a well respected and well loved professor in the School of Art. Born in Australia, Howard traveled the world and honed his craft, eventually publishing multiple books that helped set the standard for non-toxic intaglio printmaking.

In February of 2015, the RIT community suffered a tremendous loss with the death of Keith Howard. Amid the vast array of transitions taking place within the field of printmaking, Keith stands as a pioneer of some of the most influential changes to media and process. Initially motivated by personal health concerns, Keith Howard’s explorations have resulted in the use of innovative materials to generate new processes that bridge the gap between the rich and often health hazardous history and the future viability of this discipline.
