Photography in Cuba course photographs

 Collection — Multiple Containers
Identifier: RITArt-0070

Scope and Contents

The Photography in Cuba photographs consist of twenty-four matted color prints of the sounds, sights and energy of Havana and Trinidad in Cuba and other small towns. They include the people, streets, homes, markets, festivals, and landscape of Cuba taken by 20 RIT students and faculty on a trip led by Denis Defibaugh and Dawn Tower DuBois during Spring break 2004. The photographs are unidentified.

In 2016, Denis Defibaugh donated 16-color prints matted 16 x 20 inch each; some have student photographer identified, some do not. I believe these to be the ones from 2004, although there is no identifying date.

The collection of Cuba 2014 prints contains the following:

  • 3- 22" x 29.25" mounted color photographs by Rice Fern

    Photography in Cuba (Faculty-Led Program)

Photography in Cuba is a 3 credit course in spring semester providing students with a unique opportunity to participate in a one-week intensive workshop experience traveling and photographing in Cuba over Spring Break. Through the use of photography, related field trips and lectures, you will be introduced to a completely new culture and environment and learn technical skills to document the environment, architecture, and the people of Cuba. You will experience the lively culture of Havana’s music, art, history, and culture along with the quiet village of Viñales with its dramatic landscape.

The course culminates in a gallery exhibition at the end of the spring semester.
