Scope and Contents

Collection contains eight projects completed by students in the Biomedical Photographic Communications program at the Rochester Institute of Technology from 1980-2010. These works were created by students of Biomed professor Michael Peres.

Also found in the collection are annual Advanced Biomedical photography class sample books from 2009-2013. These books were created to showcase the talents of some incredibly bright and dedicated photography students who are working on a bachelors of science degree. The Biomedical Photographic Communications program is a unique media program that blends applied imaging technology, communications and science. These books can be found in the Wallace Library catalog and are located in Archives RIT TR708.A38.

Historical Information: RIT Biomedical Photographic Communications

RIT offers the only program in the nation granting a bachelor of science degree in Photographic and Imaging Technology with options in Biomedical Photographic Communications, and Imaging and Photographic Technology. The program is designed to prepare students for photographic imaging careers that support visual information capture and delivery in the life sciences such as medical facilities, ophthalmic clinics, science research centers, veterinary medicine and other health science situations such as pharmaceutical companies or forensic labs or imaging companies including Nikon, Zeiss, Xerox and Topcon.

The biomedical photographic communications option prepares students for photographic careers in a wide variety of environments including forensic and research laboratories, hospitals, and other biological settings such as ophthalmic (eye) clinics and veterinary research schools, or in other life science situations such as pharmaceutical companies. Foundation courses in combination with practical experiences gained with digital photographic equipment and processes, including still and moving media, desktop publishing, and digital media applications are required.

Michael Peres collection of Biomedical Photography student projects and Strategic Planning documents is six volumes of an annual advanced biomedical photography class sample books from 2009-2012, eight Biomedical student projects from 1980-2010, and one folder of RIT's School of Photographic Arts and Sciences Strategic Planning documents from 1991-1995.
