Scope and Contents

The Walter Amos Deemer textbooks and drawings collection contains three textbooks used by Mr. Deemer, and two drawings created by him while he was a student at the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute. The three books include Practical Mathematics, Part III-Algebra by Claude Irwin Palmer, Introduction to Mathematical Analysis by F.L. Griffin, and Heat, a Manual for Technical and Industrial Students by J.A. Randall. The two drawings depict a sun fueled motor and a greenhouse with notes regarding energy output.

Biographical / Historical

Walter Amos Deemer was born January 28, 1908 and died May 13, 1997 in Elysburg, PA. Mr. Deemer was a student at the Rochester Atheneum and Mechanic's Institute. He graduated from the Institute in 1931.

Walter built and operated WABX, Harrisburg's first FM radio station. He serves as the station's general manager. He had been a transmitter engineer for the radio station WCMB and the former WTPA-TV (Channel 27). Mr. Deemer was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
