Historical Information: RIT sports

The earliest reported sporting event in RIT’s history was a football game with Canandaigua High School in 1902 (RIT lost 10-0). Today, RIT has 24 men's and women's varsity sports, and sports-wise, is best known for its Division I men's hockey team. In recent years, RIT has invested in sports facilities. This effort began with RIT's 8th president, Albert J. Simone. New facilities include the Gordon Field House and Activities Center (2004), a turf field with lights (2004), tennis complex (2003), and the proposed hockey rink Gene Polisseni Center (2011).
