Biographical / Historical

RIT Student Government was formally recognized in 1951. According to the preamble of the Student Government charter, the purposes of Rochester Institute of Technology Student Government are:

To represent the students through a centralized representative government.

To facilitate communication and understanding between students, the student government, and the Institute.

To solicit and receive student issues, concerns, and opinions.

To ensure and expand student participation in Institute decisions affecting students.

To safeguard the individual and collective rights and freedoms of students.

To coordinate and expand student involvement in all areas of campus life.
