Scope and Contents
The Igor Kolombatovic collection contains personal papers and documentation of art exhibitions from 1954 to 2014. Four binders of material are organized into various subjects. Volumes I and II contain correspondence relating to Kolombatovic's immigration and refugee status between 1954 and about 1957. Volume III contains letters to and from Kolombatovic between 1958 and 1959. Volume IV contains correspondence to and from Kolombatovic from about 1960 to 2005. Several other binders contain the following: biographical information and a draft of Kolombatovic's biography; photographs; art-related files; and a large album of historical images and articles displayed at Kolombatovic's memorial service. Also in the collection are two videotapes ("IGOR IGOR" and Kolombatovic's art exhibition and Toronto's Deaf Culture Center in 2008) and three DVD discs ("Igor's Memorial Service" July 30, 2014; "Igor Kolombatovic: A Retrospective, November 2004; and "This is Your Life" - Igor's 70th birthday.

Biographical / Historical
Igor Kolombatovic was a Deaf painter whose work, it has been said, explores themes of freedom emerging from oppression. Kolombatovic lived in Yugoslavia during World War II, escaped as a refugee to Canada, and eventually moved to California, where he was very active in the art world for the entirety of his life.
