Biographical / Historical

The Rochester Institute of Technology's (RIT) 1620 Computer Club was formed in the late spring of 1965. In the fall of 1965, the group set up a booth at the Freshman Daze Student Activities Fair, attracting over fifty members. Its purpose was threefold:
  • To provide information and instruction about computers to interested students
  • To provide a library of computer information for its members
  • To teach interested members computer languages.

The group organized a lecture series on computers and provided computer-related services to other campus offices and organizations. For instance, the club created religious preference lists for campus religious organizations and produced the first computer-printed master copy of the student directory.

Despite its popularity, the RIT 1620 Computer Club no longer appeared in any of RIT's yearbooks during the 1980s, suggesting that the group folded.
